Wooden 15-Hole Shape Sorter: A Parent's Guide to the Exact Set
Published · Kiddil

This guide is for Kiddil's Wooden Shape Sorter Box — 15 Shapes, not for every sorter sold under a similar name. The photographed package calls it a “Fifteen hole shape intelligence box” and visibly marks it 3+ with a small-parts choking warning for children under three. The live product description says the box has 15 shaped openings and 15 matching wooden pieces that collect inside. The store lists it for ages 3–6. Check the current product page for price and availability, since both can change.
Before the first play
Open the package and count the loose shapes against the listing. Inspect the wood and paint for damage or loose pieces; if something arrives wrong or damaged, contact Kiddil before use. Read the actual package warnings. Use the toy on a clear, low surface where pieces will not roll away. Keep all pieces out of reach of children under three, including younger siblings. The CPSC recommends following package ages and keeping small parts away from under-threes. A 3+ mark is an age instruction, not proof of a certification that Kiddil has not verified.
A gentle first-week progression
First play: just two pieces
Put the box down with two openings in sight and offer two corresponding pieces. Let your child compare the piece and hole, turn the piece and try. If it does not fit, ask what they notice rather than pushing it through for them.
Next play: find another side
Turn the box so the same opening is now on the side. Ask where it went. Add another piece when your child is ready. Use words such as “on top”, “beside”, “corner” and “curve”; NAEYC suggests slide, flip and turn play with shape language for preschoolers (NAEYC).
Later: a rule the child chooses
Let your child pick three pieces and invent an order to post them. Or group a few by a feature they notice before posting. All 15 pieces need not be out at once. A child who enjoys emptying the box and repeating one action can still use the set that way.
Storing and caring for the set
At the end, count the loose pieces and put them in a container the younger children cannot open or reach. Wipe the box and shapes according to any care direction on the actual packaging; if there is none, use a lightly damp cloth and dry fully before storage. Do not soak painted wood. Stop using any damaged or splintered piece and ask Kiddil for help. We have not independently tested this set's coating or cleaning method.
When to choose something else
For a child under three, this exact package is not the right choice. Choose a product with its own suitable age label. For a child who wants to put rings on a post more than hunt for holes, compare the sorter and ring stacker. For six hands-on activities with this box, see shape sorter play ideas. Browse the educational toys collection for other age-labelled options.
Questions parents ask
How many shapes are included?
Kiddil's live listing says 15 matching wooden pieces and 15 openings. Count what arrives before play and contact us if it differs.
Does a three-year-old have to complete all 15?
No. Start with two pieces and add more according to interest. Play is not a timed test.
Is the box safe for a younger sibling?
It is marked 3+ with a small-parts warning. Keep the loose pieces away from children under three and choose an age-appropriate toy for them (CPSC).
