Description

A wooden pull-along trailer with shaped holes cut into its top and sides, and a set of coloured wooden blocks in the matching shapes — circle, square, star, heart and others. Your child finds the hole each block belongs to and posts it in. When every block is inside, the trailer is loaded and ready to pull.

The details

  • Ages: 1–3 years
  • Material: wood

How you play
  1. Tip the blocks out and spread them in front of your child.
  2. Let them look at the pieces and name the shapes they know.
  3. Pick up one block and hunt for the hole shaped like it on the trailer.
  4. Post the block in through its hole.
  5. Carry on until every block is inside the truck.
What it builds
  • Telling shapes apart by eye before trying them in a hole
  • Hand strength and precision from lining a block up and pushing it through
  • Shape and colour names, learned while holding the piece
  • Finishing a set, which a truck full of blocks makes obvious

Three ways to play it
  • Load the truck and pull it around the room, then unload it somewhere new
  • Hand over one shape at a time so a younger child is not overwhelmed
  • Name a shape and let your child find both the block and its hole
