Choosing toys for ages three, four and five

Start with a play task the child enjoys, then check the exact toy's age label, pieces and warnings. Children of the same age can have very different puzzle or game experience; a box age is a safety and suitability guide, not a promise that a child will finish the activity alone. The AAP recommends reading the label.

A 180-piece puzzle can still be a long challenge even when its product age includes three. Match the task to the child's experience and offer help when needed.
