Button Push Picture Boards — Colour Matching

Picture cards with holes punched through them and a set of coloured buttons that press into place. Your child picks a picture — a chick, for example — and pushes each button into the hole that matches its colour, until the picture is finished.

How you play

1. Choose a picture card and lay it flat.
2. Sort the buttons by colour so they are easy to find.
3. Look at the colour each hole is asking for.
4. Press the matching button into the hole until it clicks.
5. Carry on until every hole on the card is filled.

What it builds

• Hand and finger strength from pressing each button home
• Colour matching, one decision at a time
• Precision — the button has to line up before it goes in
• Finishing what was started, which the completed picture makes obvious

Three ways to play it

• Do one colour across the whole picture, then the next
• Name each colour out loud as it goes in
• Let your child choose which picture to do rather than working through in order
