Learning Clock with Daily Routine Cards

A teaching clock with coloured, easy-to-move hands, and a deck of cards showing everyday activities at set times. Your child draws a card, reads the time on it, and moves the hands to match. Tying the clock to their own day is what makes the numbers mean something.

How you play

1. Draw a card and look at the activity and the time on it.
2. Find the hour hand and the minute hand by their colours.
3. Move the hands to match the time on the card.
4. Check the two against each other.
5. Talk about when in your child's day that activity actually happens.

What it builds

• Telling the hour hand from the minute hand, which is the first hurdle
• Reading a clock face rather than a digital display
• A sense of a day having an order and a shape
• Planning language — before, after, at, until

Three ways to play it

• Pick tomorrow's cards the night before and set the clock for each
• Set a time yourself and ask your child what happens then
• Put the clock where they can see it and check it against the real one
