Description
A 180-piece jigsaw of a space exploration scene — astronauts, spacecraft and planets against a dark sky. The dark background is the real challenge: once the bright objects are placed, the rest has to be worked out by shape.
The details
- Ages: 3–5 years
- Pieces: 180
Parent guides: Focus and Concentration Games for Kids by Age, and How to Help Your Child Concentrate · Games That Build Your Child’s Skills, by Age: 1, 18 Months, 2, 3, 4–5 and 6+
How you play
- Sort the pieces into bright objects and dark background.
- Build the outside edge first.
- Place the astronauts, spacecraft and planets — the strong colours make these easiest.
- Fill the dark sky last, matching by piece shape rather than colour.
- Check the whole picture for any piece sitting slightly wrong.
What it builds
- Sorting deliberately before starting, which halves the work
- Matching by shape when colour stops helping
- Concentration across a build that takes more than one sitting
- Curiosity about space, prompted by the scene

Three ways to play it
- Do the dark background as a challenge on its own
- Time each session and compare the pace
- Name everything in the finished picture
