Description
A post with twelve coloured rings that graduate in size, stacked from the largest at the bottom to the smallest at the top. At this age most of the play is pulling the rings off and putting them back on; ordering them by size comes later, and the toy stays useful the whole way through.
The details
- Ages: 0–1 years
- Pieces: 12

How you play
- Take the rings off and put them where your baby can reach.
- Let them pull rings off the post — that is the first game.
- Guide their hand to post one ring back on.
- Name the colour each time a ring goes on.
- Later, start with the largest ring and work down to the smallest.
What it builds
- Grip and release, which is the whole job of a hand at this age
- Hand-eye coordination, lining a ring up with the post
- Colour and size differences, seen side by side long before they can be named
- Focus, held a little longer with each attempt
Three ways to play it
- Roll the rings across the floor for a baby who is not stacking yet
- Stack two or three rings only, so finishing is within reach
- Hold a ring up and let your baby reach for it, to practise the grip
