Colour Sequence Card Game — Ocean Theme

A card game about order. Each player holds a hand of coloured cards and one card starts the sequence on the table. On your turn you look for the card whose colour comes next and play it. The first player to get rid of their hand wins.

How you play

1. Deal the cards out and place one on the table to start the sequence.
2. Look at your hand for the colour that comes next in the run.
3. Play it onto the table to extend the sequence.
4. If you cannot go, wait for your next turn.
5. The first player to play their last card wins.

What it builds

• Sequencing — seeing what comes next in an order, not just matching
• Scanning your own hand quickly while the game moves
• Waiting for a turn and staying in the game while waiting
• Recognising colour runs, which is early pattern work

Three ways to play it

• Lay the full colour run out face up as a reference for a younger player
• Play in pairs, one holding the cards and one choosing
• Play backwards down the sequence instead of forwards
