Description
A board game about who eats what and who lives where. Circular picture pieces show animals and plants from land and sea, and your child arranges them by their relationships — the food chain from the smallest insect to the largest predator, and which habitat each belongs in.
The details
- Ages: 3–8 years
Parent guides: Games That Build Your Child’s Skills, by Age: 1, 18 Months, 2, 3, 4–5 and 6+ · Kids' Gift Ideas by Age: Birthday Presents From Baby to 10+
How you play
- Lay the board out and spread the circular pieces around it.
- Start with a habitat — land or sea — and gather what lives there.
- Find the smallest living things and place them at the start of a chain.
- Add each creature that eats the one before it.
- Check every chain reads correctly from bottom to top.
What it builds
- Two ideas at once: what eats what, and what lives where
- Classification by habitat, which is different from classification by type
- Ordering a chain by a rule rather than by appearance
- Talk about the natural world, prompted by the pieces
Three ways to play it
- Do land one day and sea the next rather than both at once
- Ask what would happen if one creature disappeared
- Find a creature from the game in a book or outside
