Speed Cube 2x2 — Pocket Rubik-Style Puzzle

A two-by-two twisting cube — the small version of the classic colour puzzle. It turns smoothly and quickly, which matters if anyone is timing themselves. Fewer pieces than the full-size cube makes it solvable by a child who would give up on the bigger one.

How you play

1. Twist the layers in random directions to scramble the colours.
2. Pick one face and gather its colour together first.
3. Turn the layers so that face stays intact while you work on the next.
4. Carry on face by face until every side is a single colour.
5. Scramble it again and try to be quicker.

• Planning a sequence of moves that does not undo the last one
• Finger and wrist strength from fast repeated turning
• Patience — the first solve takes a long time and that is normal
