Wooden Take-Apart Car — Screwdriver and Hammer Set

A wooden car that arrives in pieces, with coloured wooden screws, a screwdriver and a hammer. Your child builds it themselves — wheels, sides and top — until it rolls. Then it comes apart again, which is half the point.

How you play

1. Lay the parts out and find the wheels, the sides and the screws.
2. Line a part up and start a screw into it by hand.
3. Turn the screw home with the screwdriver.
4. Use the hammer for the parts that tap into place.
5. Roll the finished car — then take it apart and build it again.

What it builds

• Hand and finger strength from turning a screwdriver, which is real effort
• Hand-eye coordination, holding a screw steady while turning it
• Working out which part goes on first so the next one still fits
• Seeing that something built can be unbuilt and built better

Three ways to play it

• Build it together the first time, then let your child lead the second
• Take one part off and ask them to work out which is missing
• Time a full rebuild and try to beat it
